Vybz Kartel Remains King of Dancehall - Jamaica's Most Streamed Artist

Vybz Kartel remains the leading entertainer in Jamaica based on Youtube streaming data, despite being behind bars from September 2011.

The dancehall deejay, who is serving a life sentence for murder, is the most streamed artist in Kingston, over the year. According to The Jamaica Star, "Vybz Kartel narrowly leads Alkaline (25.3 million), Popcaan (19.4 million), Masicka (15.2 million) and Rygin King (11.1 million) as the top artists being streamed out of Jamaica."

Alkaline and Kartel are together as the top streamed artist in Montego Bay with a total of 455,000 views from each. Popcaan (273,000) is third, Rygin King (246,000) is fourth and Masicka (225,000) is fifth.

The top song streamed in Kingston is for Rygin King's Tuff. Ella Mai's Boo'd Up, We Pray (feat. Popcaan), They Don't Know by Masicka and Popcaan's Inviolable come up as the top five songs.

Teejay's My Type is the most streamed song, in Montego Bay, followed by Vybz Kartel's Deso It Deh, Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next, Teejay's Uptop Boss and Trip by Ella Mai.

Vybz Kartel fanbase is incomparable with any other dancehall artist in the industry. While being incarcerated, he connects with his fans through social media and the release of several hit songs. This helps keep Vybz Kartel connected to the culture.
