Ever since JayQ The Legend released “Body Talk,” he’s become a mainstay with a heavy presence on the Billboard charts and a stronghold on YouTube viewership. It’s true, not only did his Dancehall collaboration with Hood Celebrityy reach number one on the Billboard Reggae Charts, it also launched JayQ The Legend’s career into the upper echelon of brand-new artists back in 2019. Since then, he has expanded upon his discography by adding contemporary R&B to his repertoire. His latest drop, “Be Mine” has already become his most streamed hit to date. It’s a rhythmic banger that has helped the crooner from St. Croix drawn early comparisons to solo artists like Akon, Wyclef Jean and Mark Morrison. The music video for this Summer classic was created by the woman for whom he co-founded his record label with. “The director for this video was Miriam Bavly (the BreakOut Music LLC Co-CEO). Her vision was to have an authenticity in the ‘Be Mine’ video setting that could transport the viewer to a reality worthy of popcorn and movie night,” said JayQ The Legend. “The genre concept was hatched by Miriam with urban elements weaved in by J-Tweezy--who was one of the associate producers of the video.” The music video was published on August 17th 2021. The group’s rollout plan for ‘Be Mine’ set a nice precedence for a follow-up single. But when Hurricane Ida stuck the West Indies and Louisiana on August 26th, JayQ The Legend knew that he would have to pivot in order to help bring hurricane relief to the people from both of the communities for which he belongs. JayQ The Legend hails from New Orleans, but he’s rooted in the West Indian community. Therefore, a vast majority of his charitable work, in late August, focused primarily on New Orleans and Caribbean-American communities throughout Alabama and Florida. “After hurricane Ida, my label allowed me to take some time to buy several really good generators, water, and gasoline to donate in New Orleans. I chose to give support to people who would amplify the relief in the community, like churches and community leaders. We drove to Alabama and Florida to purchase these items several times. We loaded up the truck and drove around for 400 miles in total to make deliveries. In the initial gap between disaster impact and government relief I like to say: We all we got,” said JayQ The Legend. “My job is done. My spiritual commitment was fulfilled. My music, movies and life are always focused on uplifting myself, my family, my community. Anyone who identifies with the things I had to overcome such as child abuse can take ownership in my success as an artist. Any child who survived abusive parents can take ownership in my success. Africans all across the world were robbed of a legacy and dispersed by slavery, as far back as 500 years ago. I go hard for them in all that I do.” Indeed, the month of August was truly a time of triumph and trials for JayQ The Legend, but sometimes going through an emotional rollercoaster can help create the best lyrical content in music. If his next single is just as sincere as his charitable initiative during the Summer, our ears are in for a real treat and so are our hearts.

Jamaica meets Nigeria as dancehall superstar Konshens and afrobeats icon Davido connect on the new summer banger “Boom Bang.” Ricky Blaze and Jonny Blaze co-produced the track, which premiered via Rolling Stone, and is set to appear on Konshens’ forthcoming album, Red Reign. Complex today premiered the “Boom Bang”video, which was directed by Jamaican dancehall star Demarco in Atlanta. “We couldn't do Jamaica, we couldn't do Nigeria, so we met at the crossroads,” Konshens says of Atlanta, a major hub for both the Jamaican and Nigerian diaspora. “There is no storyline to the video, it’s just a fun vibe and that’s what we want going into the summer. The past year has been way too serious, so we’re trying to loosen things up now.” Known for international dancehall smashes like “Bruk Off Yuh Back” and “Gal a Bubble,” Konshens has represented the genre on collaborations with Nipsey Hussle, Cardi B, Doja Cat, The Chainsmokers, Nicky Jam and Rick Ross, to name a few. He can also be heard on the freshly released F9: The Furious Saga soundtrack, on the track “Real” alongside Justin Quiles and Dalex. Davido is one of the most influential artists in Africa, a global superstar known for making some of afrobeats’ most wide-reaching and immediately identifiable tracks, such as “Fall,” “If” and 2020’s “Fem.” “Boom Bang” follows the Spice and Rvssian collab “Pay For It” and the introspective “Can’t Stay Sober” as Konshens rolls out Red Reign, anticipated for release later this year through Ineffable Records. The album marks Konshens’ first release through the label arm of the multi-faceted Oakland-based music company Ineffable Music Group.

Dancehall star, producer, and all-around Jamaican music legend Demarco will release his debut album, Melody, on Oct. 22 through California’s Ineffable Records. A project over a decade in the making, Melody launches today with “Mover” featuring fellow Jamaican star and labelmate Konshens, out now on all DSPs. Guest features on Melody include Sean Paul, Shaggy, Sarkodie, Stephen Marley and Ky-mani Marley, with Demarco handling production on all but four tracks. Beatmaker Will K. produced “Mover,” with Demarco and Konshens bringing spicy, bilingual pickup lines and dancefloor callouts over a flute-driven fusion of dancehall and urbano.. Melody, named after both Demarco’s newborn child and the melodic sensibilities that color the album, arrives more than 10 years after Demarco first burst onto the dancehall circuit with his breakthrough single, “Fallen Soldiers.” The somber, reflective track kicked off an iconic run of dancehall classics from Demarco including “Duppy Know Who Fi Frighten,” “She Can’t Wait,” and the Rihanna-endorsed “I Love My Life” and “Puppy Tail.” Beyond the genre, Demarco has teamed with Akon and Runtown on the cross-continental afrobeats smash “No Wahala,” collaborated with Busta Rhymes, Giggs and Jim Jones, and is widely reported to be among the songwriters on Rihanna’s long-rumored dancehall album. Behind the scenes, he’s produced some of modern dancehall’s iconic riddims — instrumental beats used by reggae producers to record multiple singles, each by different vocalists— as well as Charly Black’s “Gyal You a Party Animal,” the most recent dancehall track to be certified Gold by the RIAA, and the first single by a Jamaican artist certified Diamond in Latin America. Adding video director to his well-rounded résumé, he’s helmed clips for Spice, Vybz Kartel and Shaggy, among others. Demarco is the latest Caribbean music star to partner with Ineffable Records, joining Konshens, Kes and Turbulence among acts releasing albums through the imprint. Launched in 2019, Ineffable Records is the label arm of Ineffable Music Group, a multifaceted, Oakland-based music company which owns and operates venues and festivals across the USA and manages and releases music from artists like Stick Figure and Collie Buddz. “Demarco is your favorite artist’s favorite artist,” says Ineffable Music Group co-founder Igor Katz. “He is responsible for helping create some of the biggest dancehall records of all time for others, and we feel like it’s time to spotlight his music on an album.“ With a track record as deep as Demarco’s, it’s hard to believe that he’s never issued an album before. But he believes when fans hear the project, they will find it was well worth the wait. “A lot of people don't know this side of Demarco,” he says of the album which, partystarters like “Mover” notwithstanding, showcases a deeper, more romantic side to Demarco. “These songs are timeless music. When you sing about love and relationships — the real things that people go through — there’s no time limit on that.”

Jamaican dancehall star Konshens has shared the new Collie Buddz-produced single “Blaze Away,” out today on all DSPs from California’s Ineffable Records. The high-grade ganja anthem, which premiered yesterday in an interview with High Times, appears on the upcoming compilation Cali Roots Riddim 2021, set to drop in full on May 28th (pre-save/pre-order HERE). Cali Roots Riddim 2021 features 26 artists, including Alborosie, Anthony B, BLVK H3RO, Demarco, Kabaka Pyramid, Konshens, Groundation and Felt (aka rappers Atmosphere & Murs), putting their own spin on a reggae rhythm produced by Collie Buddz and Johnny Cosmic. The project is a joint release with — and derives its name from — the California Roots Festival, the biggest reggae festival in the United States. It follows last year's highly successful Cali Roots Riddim 2020 project, which featured tracks from Jesse Royal, Yellowman, Collie Buddz, Etana and SOJA, among others, and has amassed over 25 millions streams on Spotify alone. Konshens, best known for his gyal tunes and turn-up anthems, wears his ganja man hat on “Blaze Away,” toasting to his favorite weed destinations from Humboldt to NYC while noting, “Nothing like a good draw from Jamaica.” More than a simple weed anthem, the track testifies to cannabis’ therapeutic powers. “Blaze Away” drops as Konshens continues to roll out his upcoming album, Red Reign, expected for release in Q3. He’s recently dropped two singles from that project, in the introspective “Can’t Stay Sober” (WATCH) and “Pay For It” (WATCH), a melodic collaboration with fellow dancehall icons Spice and Rvssian. The album marks Konshens’ first release with Ineffable Records, the label arm of the multi-faceted Oakland-based music company Ineffable Music Group.

Nigerian music superstar Olamidé has shared audio and visuals for “Rock,” the first single from his forthcoming album, UY Scuti. The 10-track LP, Olamidé’s third new music project in just over a year, is set for release on June 14th through a partnership between his own YBNL Nation imprint and U.S. indie powerhouse, EMPIRE. The “Rock” video, directed by renowned Nigerian director Clarence Peters, takes viewers inside a noir vision of Lagos, starring Olamidé and dancer Soliat Bada as flirtatious lovers plotting a rendezvous. Rising Nigerian beatmaker Eskeez, who handles the lion’s share of production on UY Scuti, produced the intimate, mid-tempo afrobeats scorcher. “The song is saying my lady doesn't have to do too much to impress me — I love you already,” Olamidé says. “It’s expressing what a guy would sing to a girl to give her confidence. I’m telling the women out there that, if a man truly loves you, you don't have to go overboard to please him.” UY Scuti takes its name from the largest-known star in our universe — a statement by Olamidé on where he sees himself within Africa’s red-hot music sphere, and beyond. The album finds Olamidé pulling inspiration from new directions, from dancehall and reggae to amapiano and alté, to create an intimate, highly personal soundtrack. “I chose UY Scuti for the title because this project is way bigger than anything I’ve ever done before,” Olamidé says. “From the creativity, the amount of work that went into the project, the process, it’s just a new Olamidé inside me.”

T.I. is under fire over his comments he made on a recent episode of the Ladies Like Us podcast last week. He expressed to host Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham that he has "yearly trips to the gynocologist" with 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah, "to check her hymen." The comments came with much opinions from people about his decision, in which the rapper has stayed silent on. Well looks like this silence will come to an end because the rapper will be speaking on his comments at 'Red Table Talk,' with Jada Pinkett Smith. Jada spoke to Entertainment Tonight during the red carpet screening of drama "Hala," at the AFI Fest in Hollywood on Monday, and opened up about her upcoming guest. "My next big guest is Tip. T.I. is coming to the table. Yes indeed," Pinket Smith revealed. "And of course, he's going to address the controversy that has been swirling." #CurrentFam, will you be tuning in?

Bored at home and looking for some good shows/series?! Well look no further, because I got some great shows to recommend! Netflix Shows: I gotta start off with my ultimate favorite right now, Black Lightning ! If you love sociology, science, or tech this is the show for you. It’s based on a metahuman family who are super heros! Next show I recommend is American Horror Story ! This series is really good, especially for those who like thriller and horror. Each season is different too, which makes it very exciting to watch! Hulu Shows: Wu-Tang: An American Saga is another great show! It is a series based on the Wu-Tang Clan group. If your a New Yorker or love Hip-Hop you will definitely LOVE the show. Last but not least, Queen Sugar ! I mean anything Ava Duvernay touches is Gold, but this show is written beautifully! A storyline based on a complex southern African-American family. #CurrentFam, I hope y’all check out these shows recommended! You will surely be pleased.
