Wayne Marshall Not Nominated For Sterling Gospel Music Awards Due To Being A Non-Practicing Christian

Without a doubt, Wayne Marshall had the biggest gospel song from out of Jamaica in 2018. However, the Sterling Gospel Music Awards did not find the song to be fitting enough for their 18 categories of awards.

The Sterling Gospel Music Awards hosted their third-year award show on Saturday, March 16th. This year the award show was kept in Kingston instead of Mandeville based on their fans asking for the award ceremony to be closer where live.

Awards were received in 18 categories which included, Album of the Year, Male Artiste of the Year, Female Artiste of the Year, Video of the Year, Local Hit, and Collab of the Year. Each award required four nominees.

On the other hand, despite the several talented artists listed as nominees, Wayne Marshall did not make the cut. "Glory To God" was the popular gospel song in Jamaica for 2018, in which featured gospel artist Ryan Mark.

Jamaican radio personality Basilla Barnaby-Cuff explained to Clinton Lindsay that it was Wayne Marshall, and rather not the song, who did not meet the expectations of the Confidential Sterling Committee. This is the group who decides the artists and songs that get nominated.

“We love Wayne’s song,” Barnaby-Cuff told the site, “but the committee has a list of requirements that all nominees must meet. First of all, the nominees must be practicing Christians, and Wayne Marshall isn't, so, for that reason, the song could not be considered. But, as I said before, we really love the song.”

Additionally, the radio personality also made it clear that the committee was not found on combing secular music with gospel music, and that secular artists do not coordinate with what they stand for.

Marshall, however, was not pleased about this choice from the Committee of the Sterling Gospel Music Awards. The artist went on Instagram and asked his fans a question based on Clinton Lindsey article.

Many fans, friends and family of Wayne Marshall was frustrated and disappointed on the decision from the Confidential Sterling Committee. This steered up the topic of Christianity and the secular world.
