Buju Banton Expected To Be Released From Prison As Early As Today

The reggae icon can walk free from prison as early as today.

Buju Banton official release date is Saturday, December 8, 2018, but sources are telling Urban Islandz that he could be released between now and Saturday. The reggae artist is likely to be release into a halfway house or in custody of ICE, who will assist the process for him to be deported to Jamaica.

The Grammy-winning reggae star has spent ten years in prison for a drug conviction which he appealed several times and lost. Banton was arrested in December 2009 at his home in Tamarac, Florida, and charged with three counts of cocaine trafficking and one gun charge. The first trial was ended in December 2010 in a hung jury. In 2011, he was convicted in a retrial and sentenced to ten years. The gun charge was eventually dropped.
