Billboard Reggae Journalist, Pat Meschino says "Dancehall Is Not Thriving"

Lorraine O'Connor • Nov 23, 2018

Pat Meschino does not believe that dancehall is doing well presently, regardless of the various international stars sampling music or doing Collab’s with local Jamaican artist.

According to The Jamaica Star, she expressed “I would not use the word thriving, it is too strong for where dancehall is right now. The 1990s thrived, the early to mid-2000s thrived, 2018 - not thriving.”

Meschino has been a reggae and dancehall Journalist for over 28 years and was exposed to the culture from youth age. The music from the artist in 1980s had used a different sound and style in terms of the craft of their music.

She also mentioned that misconception of dancehall thriving comes from the dancehall artist hitting mainstream in markets like the U.S.
