Lorraine O'Connor • Mar 30, 2019

Xyclone song “Meck It Clap” featuring Konshens has been trending lately in dancehall. From street and club parties, radio airplay, to famous dancers doing the “Pregnant Pause” Challenge, and now Jamaican viral sensation star Mackerel dancing and dissing media personality Jenny Jenny to the song. “Meck It Clap” without a doubt has currently become one of the hottest songs in dancehall.

The dancehall artist released the remix of the song in October 2018, which was produced by Epik Jones. “Meck It Clap” was originally on his album 2774 Waterford Parkway . The collaboration hit number one on the iTunes Reggae Chart.

Aside from “Meck It Clap” success in his music career, Xyclone has made other great achievements in which he debuted number one on Billboard Reggae Charts with the first album From Basement to Big League , and number four last year with 2774 Waterford Parkway .

In this interview, Xyclone opens up more about his career, current success and future moves.

For introductory, where do you originate from?
Waterford, Portmore, Jamaica.

What made you want to pursue music?
If there is one thing I learned in life it is you gotta do what makes you happy, and music makes me extremely happy. Whether listening to it, making it, sharing it, or producing it or whatever. And I am very good at it. Music makes me happy and that makes me pursue music.

Coming from Portmore, Jamaica with a a great musical scene, how has it inspired your musical career?
I'm from Portmore, Jamaica, but most of my music is more influenced by the DMV area which is Baltimore, Washington D.C., even Brooklyn and even Philadelphia. So maybe just like North East America because when I decided to take music serious I lived in America and not Jamaica.

"Meck It Clap" is making successful rounds in dancehall, how do you feel about the positive feedback and support from the single?
I appreciate the positive feedback. It's a song that was released in 2017 and I was really confident that it would do well in Dancehall. I actually went the extra mile and remix it with dancehall superstar Konshens. He did a lot for the song and I appreciate it a lot. Right now it is getting support from DJ's all over the world, females, Instagram, just dancing to it in parties, and females requesting the song in parties. It is great feedback, I am excited and happy. It's my biggest song to date and I think the best is yet to come.

In addition to having a hot song with Konshens, you also have two other songs "Favorite Girl" and "It's You That I Need" which has over 100K streams. What plans do you have for these songs in 2019?
With "Favorite Girl," Nefertari and I are looking to shoot the video and hoping to get more attraction on that song heading into the summer. For "It's You That I Need," Bobby Konders and I are looking to remix that song, I'm not going to tell you who as yet but we're gonna make it an even doper record, a worldwide record. It is also going to be on my upcoming album The Year of The Wolf, and that is being released June 7th, 2019.

As you just mentioned, you will be releasing a new album named The Year of The Wolf. Tell us more about the album and what can fans expect from this project?
This is going to be my fourth studio album and I'm super excited to drop it. I got collabs from Spragga Benz on there, the whole Red Square Team, Jah Vinci, Konshens, Stylo G, and Craze 24. The album is pretty dope. "Meck It Clap" will be on there and "It's You That I Need." Those are my two focus at the moment. We are also aiming to go big, bigger than reggae Billboard number one.
